[GRAND FALLS, NB] — The Falls and Gorge attraction in Grand Falls is receiving a major combined federal and provincial investment in support of its revitalization.

The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is investing $1.5 million in the project under the Innovative Communities Fund (ICF). The Government of New Brunswick is contributing $500,000 while the Town of Grand Falls is investing $1,075,259.

"Our Government’s investment will help the community of Grand Falls undertake major improvements to two local tourism facilities tied to its iconic natural tourism attractions, the Falls and Gorge of Grand Falls," said Bernard Valcourt, associate minister of National Defence and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) (La Francophonie).

This project will help complete extensive renovations to the tourism information centre and services provided through the Malabeam Centre at the top of the Falls and the camping and Gorge tour operations supported by La Rochelle Centre. Renovations to the facilities include new windows, doors, roofs, restrooms and exterior finishes. The work also involves upgrades to the parking surfaces and landscaping for the two sites and improvements to the adjacent trail system. In addition, funding is being provided to support the marketing and promotion of the Falls and Gorge as a significant regional tourism draw.

“With the combined funding from our provincial and federal partners along with the one million dollar contribution from the Town of Grand Falls, this strategic investment will help revitalize and keep our community on the list of New Brunswick must-see destinations for another generation of visitors as well as sustain our local economy for years to come,” said Richard Keeley, Mayor of Grand Falls.
