[ATHOLVILLE, NB] — An investigation is underway into a workplace accident that killed one man and left two other people injured at a pulp mill in northern New Brunswick.

In a release, WorkSafeNB says 60-year-old Maurice Roussel died in hospital last Thursday, shortly after falling more than 10 metres to the floor when a wooden catwalk collapsed.

Fidele Cormier, a spokesman for the Crown corporation, says Roussel and the other men were repairing roofing drains at the AV Cell Inc., mill in Atholville.

One co-worker is in stable condition at the Moncton Hospital with a broken back and leg, while a second worker was treated for a broken wrist and released from hospital.

The men worked for Val Landry & Son Ltd., of Campbellton.
