[HALIFAX, NS] – Investigators with the HRP/RCMP Integrated Financial Crime Unit are investigating a number of cases where counterfeit money has been passed.

Over the last week, police have received five reports of counterfeit American $20 bills being passed in various fast food restaurants and gas stations in Dartmouth and Halifax. In every case, the bills have the serial number JL84864491B and the ink on the paper will run if it gets wet. A 44-year-old Dartmouth woman has been charged in two of the cases and investigators will be looking to see if there is any connection between those files and the other three incidents.

In most counterfeit cases the person purchases an inexpensive item in order to get the maximum amount of real money as change. To report incidents involving counterfeit money, call 490-5020.
